MARBLE CANYON, British Columbia, July 1 (UPI) -- Two little girls are dead as a result of a freak accident while hiking in a British Columbia park.
The sisters, aged five and eight, were crushed by a falling tree while hiking with their parents and family friends at Marble Canyon.

The dead 7-foot spruce was felled by winds gusting over 40 mph and slid down a steep embankment behind the hikers.
One girl died instantly. The other suffered traumatic injuries and was dead before rescue crews arrived, the Calgary Sun reported.
The father is a paramedic and tried to resuscitate the youngest girl but failed.
The family asked for anonymity.
