BAGHDAD, June 27 (UPI) -- Iraqi power workers have become the new target of resistance terrorists hoping to wreak havoc on Iraq's delicate electricity grid.

A top Baghdad power executive was gunned-down Wednesday and another electricity official narrowly missed the same fate Thursday while driving on a nearby highway.

The Wall Street Journal quotes coalition officials as saying that they are now beginning to suspect these latest attacks were coordinated.

"There have been both threats and actual attacks against people in key positions to deliver services to Iraqi people," said John Sawers, a top British coalition official. "This is clearly a form of intimidation against cooperation."

In an escalation of attacks, oil pipelines have been bombed and vital electricity transmission lines sabotaged. The resistance groups are turning their attention to Iraqis helping to restore basic services.

The slain power official had told her family about the difficulties.

"Every time we tried to make the transmission lines work they would be sabotaged," she said.
