Watchdog group: abandon Boeing deal

WASHINGTON, June 24 (UPI) -- Citizens Against Government Waste President Thomas Schatz has sent a letter to the House Armed Services Committee opposing a Boeing tanker lease deal.

The letter said, "As the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Projection Forces prepares to hold a hearing on the recent Air Force contract agreement to give Boeing $21 billion to lease 100 767 re-fueling tankers, the one million members and supporters of Citizens Against Government Waste want you to be aware of our strong opposition to this enormous waste of taxpayer dollars. We urge you to oppose this expensive and unnecessary arrangement."

He claims the contract was approved, despite testimony from both the General Accounting Office and the Congressional Budget Office saying the lease agreement will cost more than purchasing the tanker aircraft or upgrading the 127 existing KC-135E Air Force tankers.
