One person killed in Mideast shooting

OFRA, Israel, June 20 (UPI) -- An Israeli citizen was killed, and three people were injured in a shooting attack Friday near the West Bank settlement of Ofra.

The victim of the attack was Zvi Goldstein from the West Bank settlement of Eli, the Haaretz news agency said.

Haaratz said two of those injured in the attack are Goldstein's parents, Gene and Lorraine Goldstein, both 73, from Plainview, New York. The two had traveled to Israel to attend their grandson's wedding, which took place Thursday night.

Goldstein was born in Brooklyn, New York, and he and his wife, Michal, immigrated to Israel in 1992. In addition to their son's wedding, the couple were also celebrating their twenty-seventh wedding anniversary.

The militant Palestinian group Hamas -- which U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell described shortly before the shooting as "an enemy of peace" -- claimed responsibility for the attack.
