Sony exec endows music hall

TOKYO, June 11 (UPI) -- Honorary Sony Chairman Norio Oga will donate his 1.6 billion yen ($14 million) retirement to the Japanese resort town of Karuizawa to construct a music hall.

Mainichi Shimbun reports Karuizawa Municipal Government officials will accept Oga's offer and will build a hall with a capacity of about 600 people.

Sources say Oga offered to donate the money because he believes "a good hall" is needed in Karuizawa, one of the top summer resort areas in Japan.

Oga owns a villa in the city.

Sony will officially offer the retirement money to Oga after receiving approval from shareholders during a June 20 meeting.
