Powell confident of Iraqi WMD claims

WASHINGTON, June 8 (UPI) -- Iraq had weapons of mass destruction prior to the U.S.-led invasion and an investigation will eventually produce evidence of that, Secretary of State Colin Powell said Sunday.

Powell told Fox News he has no doubt Saddam Hussein had biological weapons and the capacity to make more of them.

It is the same contention Powell made before the United Nations Security Council prior to the war.

Back in the beginning of February, Powell told the U.S. that Iraq had a stockpile of "between 100 and 500 tons of chemical-weapons agents."

Powell told Fox the charges are supported by U.S. intelligence holdings and he spent four days and four nights with agents to make sure.

The New York Times reported Saturday that intelligence officials both in the U.S. and U.K. are disputing Bush Administration claims of weapons of mass destruction being found in Iraq.
