WTC firefighter's blood buried

NEW YORK, June 7 (UPI) -- More than a year after New York firefighter Michael Cammarata died in the attacks on the World Trade Center, his family held his funeral.

Cammarata's family buried his blood Saturday along with other personal items in a funeral at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, in Staten Island.

His brother, Joseph Cammarata, told the New York Daily News the coffin held a vial of blood his brother donated before he died, his dress uniform, pictures, letters to his girlfriend, hockey sticks and baseball gloves.

The family learned about the blood three months after the terrorist attack but kept hoping that his remains would be found.

Cammarata, who was 22 when he died, had given the sample to determine whether he could donate bone marrow.

His brother, Joseph, joined the Fire Department of New York last year.
