U.S.-led team to arrive in Israel Sunday

JERUSALEM, June 6 (UPI) -- A U.S.-led team reportedly will arrive in Israel Sunday to monitor the implementation of President Bush's proposed road map toward peace in the Middle East.

The newspaper Ha'aretz reported Friday the team, composed of 13 inspectors and headed by the U.S. assistant secretary of state for nonproliferation, will be based in Jerusalem.

Also in coming days, Prime Ministers Ariel Sharon and Mahmoud Abbas are scheduled to meet a third time. Senior security officials will be having talks as well.

An Israel Defense Forces officer told Israel Radio that Palestinian security services are taking its first steps to crack down on terrorists. However, the officer also warned that the terror activities in Israel could continue.
