Senate kills ANWR drilling proposal

WASHINGTON, March 19 (UPI) -- The Senate Wednesday narrowly rejected a proposal to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil drilling by a 52-48 vote. It was not immediately known if the White House-backed idea would be re-introduced after stumbling in the Republican-controlled Senate.
