Texas governor orders spending cut

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry Thursday ordered an immediate 7 percent cut in state spending that would generate $700 million in savings. Texas is facing nearly a $10 billion revenue shortfall in the next two-year budget cycle.
