A reward of up to $50,000 for information leading directly to his arrest. The FBI cautioned members of the public not to approach him, but instead to contact the nearest FBI field office or law enforcement agency.

Alfonso was charged in DuPage County with the June 6, 2001, murder of his 28 year-old ex-girlfriend, Genoveva Velasquez, as she arrived for work at a restaurant located in Wheaton, Ill., a suburb of Chicago.

Alfonso allegedly approached Velasquez as she was about to enter the restaurant and shot her five times with a handgun, the FBI said.

Velasquez was a resident of Glendale Heights, Ill., and the mother of one child. She died at the scene.

Alfonso is also charged with the 1992 murder of Sumanear Yang, a 23 year-old resident of Wheaton.

According to charges that were filed by the Kendall County states attorney, and un-sealed Thursday, Alfonso is alleged to have killed Yang in September of 1992, after she ended their brief relationship.

Yang was reported missing and her burning automobile was discovered in Chicago. Yang's skeletal remains were found in a wooded area of the Silver Springs State Park, in Yorkville, Ill., in November 1992.

Alfonso is a black male, born on June 26, 1969, in Wheaton. The FBI said he is 5 feet 5 inches tall, 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

He has a stab wound scar on his left chest and the name "Blanca" tattooed on his upper back. Alfonso speaks fluent Spanish, has held jobs as a laborer and factory worker, and is a regular patron of gyms and fitness clubs, according to the bureau.

Alfonso was born Michael Alfonso Johnson, but legally changed his name following the disappearance on Sumanear Yang. The FBI said he has family ties to the Chicago area, as well as Phoenix, Arizona; Columbus, Georgia; Memphis, Tennessee; Alabama and Mississippi. In the past, he has traveled to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico.

Alfonso is the 476th person to be placed on the FBI's "10 Most Wanted Fugitives" list, which was established in 1950. Since then, 446 fugitives have been apprehended or located, 145 of them as a result of citizen cooperation, the FBI said.
