Pope accepts cardinal's resignation

BOSTON, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Pope John Paul II accepted the resignation of Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston on Friday morning and appointed an interim leader, the church announced. The cardinal had been under intense pressure to resign over the sex abuse scandal in the Boston archdiocese.
