ST. LOUIS, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Republican Jim Talent pulled out a narrow victory in Tuesday's election for Missouri's U.S. Senate seat, beating incumbent Democrat Jean Carnahan and changing the balance of power for the remainder of the 107th Congress. With 97 percent of the vote counted, Talent led Carnahan 50 percent to 48 percent for the remaining four years on the term to which Carnahan's husband, Mel, was elected posthumously.
