Davis claims victory in Calif. gov. race

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Incumbent Gray Davis overcame an early lead by Republican Bill Simon Tuesday night and captured a second term as governor of California. Simon conceded the race with 72 percent of the votes counted, with Davis leading at 47.5 percent to 42.4 percent.
