Bush brother Neil files for divorce

HOUSTON, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- A brother and sister-in-law of President George W. Bush have filed for divorce in a Houston court, the Houston Chronicle reported Thursday.

The lawsuit cites "discord or conflict of personalities" as the grounds. Neil Bush filed the suit Aug. 26 under the couple's initials -- N.M.B vs. S.L.B. Neil Bush and Sharon Bush were married in July 1980 and separated in July 2002, the newspaper reported.

Neil Bush agreed to alternative dispute resolution to determine custody of two of their children, a 16-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter. A third child, fashion model Lauren Bush, is 18 and is not mentioned in the filing, the Chronicle said.

Until 1988, Neil Bush was a director of Denver-based Silverado Banking, Savings & Loan Association, whose collapse was investigated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. He and 11 other defendants agreed in 1991 to pay $49.5 million to settle a $200 million negligence lawsuit filed by the federal agency. Neil Bush denied any wrongdoing.

In 1991, he moved to Houston to work for TransMedia Communications. Bill Daniels, a major Republican fundraiser and friend of the Bush family, hired him as director of new business development for TransMedia, the Chronicle said.
