Thompson pushes for welfare reform

DENVER, July 26 (UPI) -- Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson Friday called on state legislators to pressure Congress for passage of a new welfare reform bill as states report increases in caseloads after years of decline. The National Conference of State Legislatures urged passage of welfare reform legislation before the 1996 law expires Oct. 1.
