Feds issue early warning reporting rules

WASHINGTON, July 5 (UPI) -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this week said it wants auto, tire and auto parts makers to report warranty claim and consumer complaint information to federal auto safety officials to provide early warning of possible defects. Congress mandated the new reporting rules in the wake of the Firestone tire recall in August 2000.
