Can judges condemn without jury?

WASHINGTON, April 22 (UPI) -- The Supreme Court heard argument Monday on whether a judge can take the sole responsibility for sentencing someone to death -- as opposed to relying on a jury recommendation or outright jury sentencing. The case involves Arizona and eight other states that still give the total responsibility to judges.
