Northern Calif. cops shoot hostage taker

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 25 (UPI) -- An apparent carjacking attempt ended in gunfire late Sunday when police in Santa Clara opened fire on a man who allegedly pointed a gun at officers and took a young boy hostage. Police said the 6-year-old was not hurt and the officers were on administrative leave Monday pending further investigation.
