Ex-Dallas mayor makes run for Senate

DALLAS, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Ron Kirk, the first black mayor of Dallas, announced Tuesday he will seek the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate in Texas. Kirk, 47, resigned as mayor in November to make the run for the seat of retiring Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas.
