Jury convicts priest in molest case

BOSTON, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A jury Friday in Massachusetts convicted a former Roman Catholic priest of a single charge of indecent assault and battery in a case in which church officials were publicly criticized for transferring him among parishes despite knowing of dozens of allegations of child sexual abuse against him. Bail was immediately revoked for John Geoghan, 66, who now faces up to 10 years in prison, two more criminal trials on similar charges and more than 80 civil suits.
