ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- A New Jersey National Guard F-16 on a training mission crashed near the New Jersey coast Thursday. The pilot ejected without serious injury.
A spokeswoman for the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs said the plane went down at about 10:30 a.m. EST near the Warren Grove Weapons Training Range, which straddles the border between Ocean and Atlantic counties. The pilot was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
John Hagerty, public information officer for the New Jersey State Police, said some debris from the crash landed on the Garden State Parkway, which connects North Jersey and New York with Atlantic City and other shore points. The far left southbound lane was closed for several hours, causing a backup of several miles.
No injuries or serious damage was reported, Hagerty said. Most of the airplane came down about a mile west of the parkway.
