CHICAGO, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- A 23-year-old man wasn't about to become the victim of carjacking, so he wrestled a weapon away from the would-be robber and shot him to death, police said.

Police said the victim was filling up his 1998 Buick Riviera at a South Side service station late Monday. While paying the attendant, he was approached by Mako Tunson, 23, and a second man.

Police said Tunson put a gun into the victim's side and demanded the car. The man handed over the keys, but then grabbed the gun and shot Tunson in the head.

Tunson was pronounced dead at the scene, but his accomplice got away with the victim's car.

Police said the investigation is continuing. No charges have been filed against the car's owner.
