Rampart cop admits rights violations

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The former Los Angeles police officer whose testimony triggered the Rampart scandal pleaded guilty Monday to civil rights violations stemming from the 1996 shooting of an unarmed suspect. Rafael Perez faces two years in federal prison and will be sentenced in March.
