Ground beef, Italian sausage recalled

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Korte & Co. Inc. of Easton, Pa., recalled 4,600 pounds of fresh ground beef because of possible Ecoli contamination and Jimmy Peccis Taste of Italy of Tinton Falls, N.J., recalled 3,400 pounds of fresh Italian sausage products because they may contain undeclared ingredients, including monosodium glutamate.

The beef was produced Nov. 5 and distributed to wholesale and institutional establishments in Ephrata and Easton, Pa. The recalled beef was packaged in cases with smaller packages of various sizes and in 60-pound lugs. Each case bears case code 111105 and establishment No. 9364 inside the USDA seal.

The problem was discovered through routine microbiological sampling.

The USDA's Food Safety and inspection service said it has received no reports of illness associated with the beef. For more information, call 610-254-9141 or 610-656-1896.

The recalled Bova Italian Sausage was produced Oct. 1, Oct. 5 and Oct. 29 and distributed to institutions in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The sausage was packaged in 10-pound cases with establishment No. 21233 inside the USDA seal.
