Court bans Georgia electric chair

ATLANTA,, Ga., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The Georgia Supreme Court on Friday barred further use of the state's electric chair, ruling that electrocution is cruel and unusual punishment when compared with lethal injection. The ruling in Georgia, where 128 inmates are on death row, means that of the 38 states that allow use of the death penalty, only 11 will still use the electric chair.
