Terry Glenn traded to Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis., March 8 (UPI) -- Disgruntled wide receiver Terry Glenn has found a new home with the Green Bay Packers.

The New England Patriots received a fourth-round pick in the 2002 draft and a conditional pick in 2003 for Glenn, who will be introduced at a Saturday news conference.

"Terry brings another dimension to our receiving corps," Packers coach-general manager Mike Sherman. "He has indicated to me in my conversations with him an intense desire to play at Lambeau Field in front of the Green Bay Packers' fans."

It will be a much-needed fresh start for Glenn, who was suspended on three separate occasions last season and kicked off the team by coach Bill Belichick in the playoffs. But Glenn opted to just focus on his new team and his new quarterback.

"I'm excited to join the Green Bay Packers," Glenn said. "I'm looking forward to being a part of the storied tradition that so many football fans follow with such incredible passion. To play for coach Sherman and in the same offense with Brett Favre is a great opportunity. I want to contribute to the team in every way I can and help the Packers get to the championship level."

The trade had been rumored for the past week and apparently came to fruition when Glenn reduced his contract demands with Green Bay. Seeking to recapture lost wages from 2001, Glenn reportedly was seeking a $7 million bonus.

As part of the deal, Glenn dropped a series of grievances and the Patriots will gain at least $2.4 million in salary cap relief.

The Packers have been in the market for a receiver since they expect to lose Bill Schroeder and Corey Bradford to free agency.

Glenn was suspended for the first four games of the 2001 season after violating the league's substance abuse policy. He also was suspended for a game against the New York Jets on Dec. 2 and later suspended from the Patriots' postseason run to a Super Bowl triumph.

Glenn appeared in four games last season and had eight catches for 107 yards.

Signed to a six-year, $50 million contract extension two years ago, including an $11.5 million signing bonus that he has yet to receive, Glenn had problems away from the game last offseason.

In May, he was charged with assault and battery following a dispute with the mother of his 5-year-old son. The woman recanted the charges.

In June, the club withheld a $1 million payment on Glenn's bonus until he worked out his personal problems. He originally was excused from training camp to tend to personal matters.
