ROME, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Google observed the 92nd birthday of Federico Fellini with a black-and-white Web doodle Friday, created to look like the late Italian filmmaker behind a camera.

The one-time cartoonist died in 1993 after suffering a stroke. He was 73.

Among the film classics he left behind were "La Dolce Vita," "8 1/2," "Amarcord," "La Strada" and "Le Notti di Cabiria."

ANSA said the American Internet company Google previously honored several other notable Italians last year, such as sculptor Gio' Pomodoro, writer Italo Calvino and Renaissance artist and art historian Giorgio Vasari.
