Poor Sport: Borna Coric obliterates racket at French Open

May 31 (UPI) -- A very tight match ended with Borna Coric destroying his racket Wednesday at the French Open.

The Croatian lost to American Steve Johnson in four sets at Roland Garros. Johnson won the round of 64 match 6-2, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.

Johnson also had an emotional day. His father died suddenly on May 11 at just 58-years-old.

"Just the pain and you know, just trying to get through it," Steve Johnson said Tuesday, via Tennis.com. "You know it's just hard."

Johnson beat Yuichi Sugita in his first round match.

Coric absolutely lost his mind Wednesday, cursing and slamming his racket into the ground repeatedly unitl it fell apart. He then tossed it toward his bench and walked off of the court. He also threw his water bottle.

"I knew he was looking down on me in that last point, and it gave me the strength to finish it off," Johnson said after the match.

Coric said he lost his cool after the match in a post-loss tweet.

"End of the road sadly at @rolandgarros in 2R," he tweeted. "Lost my cool after the final whistle, hope to improve on that. Congrats and good luck to Steve."

Johnson battles Australian Dominic Thiem at 5 a.m. Friday in the round of 32. The sixth-seeded Thiem beat Italian Simone Bolelli in three sets Wednesday in the round of 64.
