New York Islanders trade Travis Hamonic to Calgary Flames

The New York Islanders acquired three draft picks from the Calgary Flames on Saturday in exchange for defenseman Travis Hamonic and a fourth-round selection.

The Islanders sent Hamonic and the fourth-round pick in either 2019 or 2020 to Calgary in exchange for next year's first-round pick, a 2018 second-round pick and a second-round pick in either 2019 or 2020.

Hamonic, 26, recorded 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 49 games this past season with the Islanders. He owns 146 points (26 goals, 120 assists) in 444 career games over seven seasons with the Islanders.

Hamonic has three seasons left on his contract at $3.857 million per year. He won the NHL Foundation Player Award on Wednesday in Las Vegas for his charity work in the community.

The native of St. Malo, Manitoba, was selected by the Islanders in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2008 NHL draft.
