Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford underwent emergency appendectomy at a Philadelphia hospital, the team announced Saturday.

Crawford became sick prior to Saturday afternoon's game against the Flyers. Scott Darling made 27 saves in the 3-1 loss.

"Corey underwent a successful appendectomy today in Philadelphia," team physician Dr. Michael Terry said in a statement. "We anticipate a full recovery and for Corey to return to unrestricted hockey activities in 2-3 weeks."

Crawford, 31, started 20 of the Blackhawks' 25 games, going 12-6-2 with a 2.27 goals-against average, .927 save percentage and two shutouts.

In need of a backup, the Blackhawks signed 23-year-old Eric Semorski to an amateur tryout contract.

Semorski is from Bloomsburg, Pa., and lives in Philadelphia. He was a goaltender for the Temple University club hockey team.
