By Alex Butler

DALLAS, June 15 (UPI) -- Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman made millions Friday when the Dallas company Wingstop went public.

While quarterbacking the Dallas Cowboys Aikiman and teammates frequented a Wingstop near Valley Ranch. Aikman eventually became a celebrity spokesman for the company and would own stock. So when the company went public this weekend, Aikman cashed in.

Shares priced at $18 jumped 71 percent and closed at $30.59, according to the New York Post. Stock sellers made almost $70 million, according to CBS DFW.

Aikman, who made about $6 million in his first four years in the NFL, told ESPN's Darren Rovell that he made more in the deal than he did his first four years in the league.

When Aikman made the deal with Wingstop, it totaled 133 restraunts. The company now has more than 750 locations. Aikman joined the company as a spokesman in 2003 and joined the board of directors in 2011, according to BizJournals.com.

"At the time, it was a natural fit," Aikman told ESPN. "They had a Wingstop right across from our Valley Ranch training facility, and I used to meet teammates there on Thursday night."

Aikman, 48, had a 94-71 career record. He passed for 32,942 yards, 165 touchdowns and 141 interceptions while winning MVP of the 1992 Super Bowl.
