DETROIT, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- NFL running backs often see sloping skills sink after the age of 30, but the Detroit Lions may never see that in Reggie Bush. On Wednesday the Lions cut Bush, 29, in a "cost-cutting move that will free up cap room to help the team with its chief off-season pursuit, re-signing All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh," according to the Detroit Free Press.

Bush had just 297 rushing yards in 11 games last season. The Lions stable is now led by Joique Bell, who rushed for 860 yards last season.

In 2013, Bush piled up 1,512 total yards and had seven touchdowns. The Lions will save $1.72 million in cap space next season by cutting Bush, who had tow years left on his deal. This year Bush was due to make $3.25 million with a $250,000 roster bonus. Next season he was due to make $3.75 with the same bonus.

Bush has started 16 games just once in an injury ridden NFL career, spanning nine seasons.
