Matt Barkley: Arizona Cardinals sign QB, promote S Miller

Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Quarterback Matt Barkley is back with the Arizona Cardinals.

Arizona announced the signing on Monday. The Cardinals also promoted safety Harlan Miller from the practice squad. Arizona placed safety Tyvon Branch, tackle D.J. Humphries and tight end Ifeanyi Momah on injured reserve in corresponding transactions. The Cardinals also re-signed cornerback Jarell Carter to the practice squad.

Barkley, 27, was a fourth round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013 NFL Draft. The USC product was traded to the Cardinals in 2015, but was inactive for all 16 regular season games and the post season.

Last year, he had the most work of his NFL career, completing 59.7 percent of his passes for 1,611 yards, eight scores and 14 interceptions in seven games for the Chicago Bears. The San Francisco 49ers signed Barkley this offseason, but he was cut on Sept. 1. Barkley will wear No. 9 in Arizona.

Miller, 23, was a sixth round pick by the Cardinals in the 2016 NFL Draft. He had six tackles, an interception and a pass defensed in two starts last season.

The 6 foot, 183 pound defensive back spent most of his rookie campaign with the team's practice squad. He also spent this season on the team's practice squad, after getting released on Sept. 2 after training camp. Miller will wear No. 34 for the Cardinals.
