Colin Holba: Jacksonville Jaguars sign long snapper to active roster

Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Rookie long snapper Colin Holba is now a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jacksonville announced the signing on Tuesday. The Jaguars placed Matt Overton on the team's reserve/injured list in a corresponding move.

Holba entered the NFL this offseason as a sixth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Steelers cut the 6-foot-4, 248-pound University of Louisville product on Sept. 12 during roster reductions.

Overton is in his sixth year. The Jaguars' long snapper suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Sunday's win against the Los Angeles Chargers. He signed with the Jaguars on Aug. 3. Overton, 31, spent the first five seasons of his career with the Indianapolis Colts. He made the Pro Bowl in 2013 and had previously been active for every game of his career.

Jacksonville tried out four long snappers on Monday, including: Holba, Ryan DiSalvo, Andrew East and Drew Ferris, according to Jacksonville.com.

On Monday, Jaguars coach Doug Marrone told reporters that the long snapper position is taken for granted.

"I say it all the time," Marrone said. "I've done it. I know the anxiety that goes up there when you have to snap that ball for the winning kick or you have to snap that ball and get it out from being backed up."

"Knowing those things can occur, I know myself that was a lot of anxiety that I used to go through. I used to always try to get in a rhythm and a thought process of blocking everything out. It is difficult. Like I always say, no one ever worries about those guys. No one ever talks about those guys, but as soon as one of those guys gets hurt, all of sudden it's anxiety all over the place. It was for us too, and we work on it."

The Jaguars face the Cleveland Browns at 1 p.m. Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium.
