Isaiah Williams: Indianapolis Colts sign guard from Kansas City Chiefs practice squad

Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Guard Isaiah Williams had been promoted from the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad to the Indianapolis Colts' active roster.

Indianapolis announced the signing on Saturday. The Colts also placed tackle/guard Jack Mewhort on injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Williams spent his 2016 NFL campaign on the Washington Redskins' practice squad. He was cut by the Redskins before the 2017 season and signed with the Chiefs on Sept. 4. He spent the first five weeks of the season with the Chiefs' practice squad. The 6 foot 3, 306 pound offensive lineman was All-MAC third-team in 2015 at Akron, appearing in 45 collegiate contests.

Mewhort joined the Colts in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The 6 foot 6, 305 pound offensive lineman has played right guard, left guard and right tackle for the Colts in his four seasons. He started all five games this season at right guard, before going down to a knee injury. Mewhort aggravated the ailment in Friday's practice and will have to undergo another surgery.

"He's been battling for a long time with these things," Pagano told reporters Saturday," according to the Colts' website. "I mean, I think, to this point, two procedures on both knees...it's a tough deal. And I hate it - I hate it for Jack. And his teammates hate it, because they've got a great respect for him, just like I do and the rest of the staff."

Le'Raven Clark, Mike Person and Kyle Kalis could fill in at right guard.
