Carolina Panthers win Twitter with sneaky 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' references

July 7 (UPI) -- Major sports leagues applauded the Carolina Panthers Friday for secretly embedding the lyrics from The Fresh Price of Bel-Air intro into their tweets.

The Panthers' official account tweeted out a mysterious tip Friday afternoon, saying: "Now go back and read the first word of our tweets from the last three days."

Just before that post, the Panthers tweeted a link to information about training camp.

"This is what you need to know if you plan on visiting us at training camp," the tweet said.

After taking the "This" from that tweet and the first word from the following tweets, you quickly realize a familiar sequence.

That sequence reads: "This is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down and I'd like to take a minute just sit right there I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called [bell symbol] air."

The lyrics are an ode for the childhood of many millennials who watched the 1990 NBC sitcom, featuring a young Will Smith.

The tweets spanned three days from the Panthers' Twitter account.

Many in the Twitter-verse approved of the long-con. The Baltimore Ravens responded with a GIF featuring the cast of the show dancing on a golf course.

The Cleveland Indians responded with a GIF of a fan doing a slow clap.

"OOOOOH THAT'S GOOD," the Charlotte Hornets tweeted.

"The last six words of our latest tweet perfectly describe you guys," the Florida Panthers tweeted. The prior tweet finished with the words: "Twitter game worthy of "elite" status."

Texas Football's Twitter account also responded to the Tweet in GIF form.

The Chicago Cubs gave a hat tip to another Twitter user when responding to the Panthers. Richard Cook pulled off a similar stunt this past week, using the first word of his tweets to display the lyrics to Smash Mouth's All-Star.

The Cubs acknowledged Cook's effort when someone asked if they saw the Panthers' tweets.

"Yeah, we also saw this," the Cubs tweeted.

The Panthers report to training camp on July 26 at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
