June 29 (UPI) -- The NFL banned running back Karlos Williams indefinitely for violating the league's policy and program for substance of abuse for a third time.
The suspension was first reported by ESPN and confirmed by NFL Network.

Williams, 24, ran for 517 yards and seven scores in 2015 for the Buffalo Bills. He was held out of minicamp in 2016 for being overweight. He was suspended for four games last July for violating the substance abuse policy and later placed on the Bills' active/non-football illness list. He was waived in August.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Williams to a reserve/future contract in January, after he was suspended for 10 games in November. Pittsburgh waived the running back in March.

Williams still has two games remaining on his 10-game suspension. The Florida State product was a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is the brother of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Vince Williams. Williams managed nine touchdowns in 11 games last season despite sharing a backfield with two-time All-Pro LeSean McCoy.

Williams' best two games came during his three career starts. In Week 3 of the 2015 season, he ran for 110 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries against the Miami Dolphins. In the Bills' eighth game, Williams plowed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries against the Dolphins. The Bills won both games. Williams' six touchdowns in his first six games is an NFL record for a player starting his career.
