Odell Beckham Jr. is at minicamp, and he's blaming the media with his shoes

June 14 (UPI) -- Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. showed up wearing some interesting cleats Tuesday at New York Giants minicamp.

The kicks were all white, but covered in newsprint. Beckham's shoes featured the names of several publications, including ESPN, the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal and TMZ. They had bold red letters spelling out "Shhhhh!!!" plastered over the newsprint.

Tuesday's practice was Beckham's first this offseason since he skipped OTAs.

The special shoes were crafted by cleat designer Tony 'Kickasso' Cole.

A photo of the shoes was originally posted on Instagram, but it has since been deleted.

Beckham wore the shoes during the practice.

The young wide receiver hasn't exactly shielded himself from camera lenses during his young career. Beckham has enjoyed the celebrity lifestyle, hanging out with Iggy Azaela, Khloe Kardashian and Justin Bieber, among others.

He posed with Johnny Manziel for a photo while the Giants were at OTAs.

Beckham was also criticized for taking a boat trip to Miami just before the Giants' playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. The Giants lost the game 38-13. After that contest, Beckham punched a hole in a wall inside Lambeau Field.

Beckham's new Pro Bowl teammate Brandon Marshall approved of the cleats.

"I asked him about them because we were stretching," Marshall told the New York Daily News. "I looked over, he stretched right next to me and I was like, 'Hold on, what does that say?' So that was pretty cool. It was fun. You should have fun with the media in this whole process. Obviously we're here to win ballgames and you've got to stay focused, but I loved it. I'm that type of guy. I thought the shoes were cool."

Giants quarterback Eli Manning was glad to have his favorite target back in action.

"It was good to have everybody out there, out there practicing," Manning told reporters Tuesday. "I thought we had a good practice. It was sharp. Guys were running around so we just have to continue making improvements. We have got some new guys on the team. We have to get everybody in their position and continue to get better."

Beckham said there was "no doubt" he would show up at minicamp.

Speculation surrounded his absence being tied to his contract after Beckham liked and retweeted several tweets about articles regarding his current rookie deal. He is due $1.8 million this season, but his statistics prompt a more lucrative contract.

Beckham told reporters that the social media interaction didn't necessarily mean he was holding out.

"Right, a retweet could really mean anything though," Beckham said. "A retweet of a three minute conversation could have been the first 15 seconds, the last 15 seconds, it could have been the whole thing. It is kind of something that you take and try to look for more information than what really lies..."
