May 22 (UPI) -- Free agent defensive back Matt Elam was arrested for the second time this offseason Monday in Palm Beach County.

The former Baltimore Ravens safety was booked into the Main Detention Center in Palm Beach County at 8:48 a.m. He is being charged with larceny grand theft and battery – touch or strike following a dispute with his girlfriend regarding a cellphone.

He is currently being held on $4,500 bond.

The report states that Elam and his 22-year-old girlfriend wrestled on the ground for the woman's cellphone. He eventually walked away with the phone, according to the Palm Beach Post.

According to the report, the woman suffered a small cut on her finger and foot during the altercation.

Elam lives in Fort Lauderdale. He attended Palm Beach's Dwyer High School before starring at Florida.

"Matthew stated he grabbed [the girlfriend's] cell phone from her hands in an attempt to take it since she was refusing to give him his money," a police officer wrote in the report, according to USA Today. "While trying to grab the phone from her hands, Matthew and [his girlfriend] went to the ground and continued to struggle over the cell phone."

Elam, 25, was arrested by Delray Beach police. He was also arrested in February in Miami on drug charges, but was released after posting $5,000 bond. He has a hearing scheduled for the latter arrest on May 30.

The Ravens declined Elam's fifth-year option for 2017. The No. 32 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft had four tackles in nine games last season, while recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery.

Elam had 77 tackles, three passes defended, two forced fumbles and an interception in 16 games during his 2013 rookie campaign. He had 52 tackles, five passes defended, a forced fumble and 0.5 sacks in 16 games in 2014.

Elam missed the 2015 season with a biceps tear.
