Defensive end Jacquies Smith, who missed virtually all of last season with an ACL injury, signed his restricted free agent tender with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced Wednesday.

The San Francisco 49ers brought Smith in for a visit, but did not make an offer, leaving the 27-year-old will little alternative but to sign his tender with the Bucs.

Knowing Smith's options were limited, the Bucs gave Smith the lowest restricted free-agent tender at $1.8-million.

Smith had 6.5 sacks in 2014 and 7.0 in 2015, but he sustained a season-ending knee injury in the 2016 season opener.

Smith is expected to be healthy for the start of the 2017 season, which is a contract year.
