Royal, who turns 31 on May 21, caught just 70 passes for 607 yards and three touchdowns in 18 games with Chicago. He also had a punt return for a touchdown in 2016.

Royal missed time with a knee injury in 2015, and a toe injury last season.

The nine-year veteran has 408 career receptions for 4,357 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also played for the Denver Broncos (2008-11) and San Diego Chargers (2012-14) before joining the Bears.

The Bears also released defensive lineman Will Sutton, fullback Paul Lasike and center Cornelius Edison.
