Arizona Cardinals pick up fifth-year option on LB Deone Bucannon for 2018 season

The Arizona Cardinals picked up linebacker Deone Bucannon's fifth-year option for the 2018 season, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

Bucannon, the 27th overall draft pick in 2014 out of Washington State, will receive $8.7 million in the last year of his rookie contract, with the salary being guaranteed for injury. He is due $1.47 million in salary and roster bonuses in 2017.

Bucannon, who entered the league as a safety, missed the last three games last season with a lingering ankle injury.

Bucannon played in 13 games (all starts) in 2016 before landing on injured reserve, making 91 tackles and one fumble recovery. In his three-year career, he has 284 total tackles, five sacks, nine pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown.
