March 28 (UPI) -- After a successful Super Bowl stint with the New England Patriots, Chris Long is switching teams for the third time in three seasons.

The defensive end agreed to a one-year, $2.4 million contract Tuesday with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo. Long, 32, had 35 tackles, four sacks, and one fumble recovery last season.

On March 1, Long took to Instagram to announce he wouldn't be returning to Foxborough.

"Thank you Pats Nation," Long wrote. "As a player you've given so much support to, I owe you an explanation as to why I'll be moving on in FA...even if it isn't a big deal."

Thank you Pats Nation. As a player you've given so much support to, I owe you an explanation as to why I'll be moving on in FA... even if it isn't a big deal. This year and this opportunity gave me a ton. I made lifelong friends in a great locker room and became a champion. I'm so thankful that Coach B (the GOAT) took a chance on me and allowed me the opportunity to play a small part in this wonderful year. This has zero to do with money, etc. It's the right move in my heart because I want to get back to being the player I was before. I'm thankful for my role this year, but as a competitor, I'm itching to do what I do best. It was important to say thank you personally. You may not remember me much, but I'll always remember y'all!! #driveforfive #missionaccomplished

Long played just 15 snaps in Super Bowl 51. The defensive lineman played the first eight years of his career for the St. Louis Rams before agreeing to a one-year deal with the Patriots last offseason. His two best seasons came in 2011 and 2012, when he had 13 and 11.5 sacks, respectively.
