Carolina Panthers give extension to RB Jonathan Stewart

March 24 (UPI) -- Cam Newton's backfield companion is in for another year of productivity with the Carolina Panthers.

Jonathan Stewart agreed to a one-year contract extension with the team Friday. The deal means Stewart will be with the Panthers through 2018.

"It means a lot. This is a special place," Stewart told Panthers.com. "The fans and the organization, they've always been good to me. We're all here to win the ultimate prize. I'm just glad to be here."

Stewart, 30, ran for 824 yards and nine scores on 218 carries in 13 games last season. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015 after rushing for 989 yards and six scores on 242 totes. Stewart is entering his 10th pro season.
