Chicago Bears signing QB Mark Sanchez

March 23 (UPI) -- The NFL's leader in free agent signings made another interesting addition Thursday.

Mark Sanchez agreed to a deal with the Chicago Bears, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

The 30-year-old completed 10-of-18 passes for 93 yards and two interceptions last season as a backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.

Sanchez is in for another backup role, after the Bears signed Mike Glennon to a three-year, $45 million pact earlier this month. The Bears are Sanchez's fifth different team in five seasons. He played the first four years of his career for the New York Jets, before joining the Philadelphia Eagles for two seasons, and the Cowboys for a short stint in 2016. He was also a member of the Denver Broncos.

Glennon, despite a lackluster resume, appears ready for the leading role.

"When I watched the Bears film, I saw a great offensive line, I saw a great running game and I saw playmakers on the outside," Glennon said in a press conference. "I saw a system that I felt fit my skill set. This was a team that I thought about over these last few months. I'm just excited that it all worked out the way that I hoped and envisioned. My gut always told me the Bears. It just felt like that was the place I wanted to be."

Sanchez will likely compete with Connor Shaw and David Fales for the backup spot. The Bears also cut longtime starter Jay Cutler earlier this month.

The No. 5 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft has thrown just 109 passes in the last two seasons.
