The Dallas Cowboys re-signed one backup running back on Thursday after seeing another accept an offer from another team.

Dallas re-signed Darren McFadden to a one-year contract worth $980,000 shortly after Lance Dunbar agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Rams.

McFadden rushed 24 times for 87 yards over the final three games last season after returning from an elbow injury he sustained prior to training camp.

The 29-year-old McFadden, who rushed a career-high 239 times for 1,089 yards in 2015, will continue to serve as a backup to NFL leading rusher Ezekiel Elliott.

McFadden has rushed 1,301 times for 5,423 yards and 28 touchdowns since being selected by the Oakland Raiders with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 draft. He also has reeled in 254 passes for 2,114 yards and five scores.

Dunbar, who met with the Rams on Wednesday, returned from a torn ACL injury that ended his 2015 season and played in a limited role over 13 games for the Cowboys. The 27-year-old Dunbar rushed nine times for 31 yards and a touchdown and had 16 catches for 122 yards in 2016.
