Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Cam Newton could use a veteran wide receiver in the Carolina Panthers' locker room.

That player could be Victor Cruz. The former New York Giants wide receiver recently worked out for the Panthers, according to reports. Some reports say the workout happened over the weekend, while others suggest that the parties met Monday.

Cruz was released on Feb. 13, following a six-year stint with the Giants. His tenure included a Super Bowl victory and a Pro Bowl nod. The 30-year-old was rumored to be meeting with the Denver Broncos before his linking to the Panthers. An NFL scout recently told ESPN that Cruz is "probably done."

The Panthers' top 3 wide receivers: Kelvin Benjamin, Devin Funchess, and Corey Brown, average 24-years-old.
