The Atlanta Falcons and star wide receiver Julio Jones are taking the patient approach regarding whether or not Jones needs toe surgery. Jones played the past two months with a sprained toe and he said the answer will come in March.
"I just have to follow up with the doctors and see," Jones told reporters on Tuesday. "That will be next month."
Jones continued to excel despite the injury. He had four receptions for 87 yards in Sunday's 34-28 overtime loss to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, including a superb catch near the sidelines in which he had to rely on the injured toe to get his feet down to complete the catch.
Jones caught 83 passes for 1,409 yards and six touchdowns in the regular season despite missing two games due to the injury. In the postseason, he had 19 receptions for 334 yards and three scores.
He is now focused on resting up to see if that helps the toe.
"I'm just relaxing right now, not trying to press it and go and have surgery right away," Jones said. "I'm just waiting right how to see if it will heal up and see what happens."
Falcons coach Dan Quinn said no surgeries are currently planned for Jones or three other injured players -- center Alex Mack (fractured fibula), running back Tevin Coleman (ankle) and offensive tackle Ryan Schraeder (ankle).
