Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay names six candidates for GM vacancy

By Alex Butler

Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Peyton Manning isn't one of the names on Jim Irsay's shortlist of candidates to interview for the Indianapolis Colts' general manager position.

Green Bay Packers' Eliot Wolf, Scott Fitterer and Trent Kirchner of the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs' Chris Ballard, and Minnesota Vikings' George Paton will be interviewed for the vacancy. Irsay will also talk to Colts executive Jimmy Raye III about the position.

Ballard is the Chiefs' director of football operations. Fitterer and Kirchner are co-directors of pro personnel for the Seahawks. Paton is the assistant general manager for the Vikings. Raye is currently the interim general manager and vice president of football operations for the Colts. Wolf is the director of football operations for the Packers. He recently signed a contract extension with the team, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"A common theme for the majority of outside candidates the Colts are bringing in for interviews includes a strong defensive background with success finding homegrown talent through the draft," Colts.com's Kevin Bowen wrote Wednesday.

Irsay fired Ryan Grigson Saturday. Grigson was hired as the team's general manager in 2012.
